12 years. 12 freakin years I’ve waited for this. Last night they finally released the demo to Duke Nukem First Access Club members and I finally got my Duke on. Was it worth the wait? I think it was, but some may disagree. The controls felt great and there is plenty of Duke humor packed in there. Can’t wait to get my hands on the full game!
Last year one of my favorite games of the year, was Metro 2033. It did what so many other games are afraid to do, stayed away from multiplayer and brought an amazing single player experience, this is something that is lacking in so many games today. Over the years my gaming hobby has gotten the best of me. At $59.99 a pop for regular versions of video games get expensive really fast. Lately my interest for video games has begun to dwindle, maybe I’m getting older and less interested in games, or maybe I’m getting tired of paying $60 for half completed games, filled with glitches and other unplayable elements. It seems publishers are pushing devs so hard to hit release date, they seem to have the “ship it filled with bugs and patch it later” attitude. Brink, for example, is one of the most frustrating games I’ve played this year, I paid $59 + tax for this game and ended up hating it, worthless AI, ridiculous gameplay, and overall a terrible experience. With the decade coming to a close in just two months, we can look back at a glut of super polished, extremely satisfying gaming experiences across all of the platforms that have graced our homes in recent years. In this time of reflection, though, let us not forget the underachievers, the disappointments, and the outright failures. The abominations of the gaming industry, if you will. Things those of us who were lucky (or unlucky) enough to live through won’t forget.
