I recently had the opportunity to take a trip to Sacramento for work, the hotel I was staying at just happened to be a few miles away from Guy Fieri’s Sushi and BBQ restaurant; Tex Wasabi’s Rock N’ Roll Sushi B-B-Q. I’d heard great things, but decided I needed to try for myself.
The atmosphere of Tex Wasabi’s is great, but a little difficult to hold a conversation, if you’re looking to take a date or hold a business meeting I probably wouldn’t pick Tex Wasabi’s to do so. Our server was great, we were greeted quickly, and he was always around when we needed him. Upon looking at the menu I knew the first things we wanted to try were the garlic fries, Szechuan green beans, and Vegas fries to get things started. I then ordered the BBQ and Sushi Combo as an entree which included ribs, pulled pork, and a gringo roll of your choice; I went with the Jackass roll. The jackass roll is made up of tapioca rice paper, sushi rice, avocado, BBQ pork, fries, and a garlic chili mayo sauce.
My favorite of the appetizers; was by far the garlic fries, there was enough garlic loaded in them to satisfy any garlic lovers cravings. The Szechuan green beans and Vegas fries were also delicious, but the garlic fries out shined them both.
As for the entree; the pulled pork was amazing, it was exactly as you would expect pulled pork to be. It may have been the best pulled pork I’ve ever had. Unfortunately though, that was the only thing I really enjoyed on the plate, the ribs were rather dry, and the jackass roll tasted like a mushy mess.
Overall the food was good, but not as good as I’d hoped for. I guess I had higher expectations, being Guy Fieri’s restaurant and all. I would definitely recommend ordering the garlic fries if you happen to make it there, I’d probably give it another chance if I happened to end up in Sacramento again, but I probably won’t go out of my way to get there.
