A few weeks ago I was watching Bacon Paradise on the Travel Channel, they came across a restaurant I’d heard of many times, but had no idea what it was… Slater’s 50/50. At Slater’s 50/50
they make their burgers with 50% turkey bacon and 50% beef, not only that, they give you the option to build your own burger, or choose from a few of the
We started off with the Vampire Dip, which is a garlic, cheese and artichoke dip, placed in a bread bowl with fresh made pita chips and pieces of focaccia bread. The Vampire Dip was absolutely delicious and an excellent way to start of the meal. I would go back just for the appetizer alone.
While the appetizer was being devoured, I went on to create my perfect bacon filled burger. My burger, which I named the “Bacon Fap
“, consisted of:
Honey Wheat Bun
Thick Cut Bacon
Had they given more bacon options I probably would have used them all.
I had also heard of one of Slater’s signature burgers that I just couldn’t get out of my head; the Peanut Butter and Jealousy burger. I thought there was no way peanut butter and jelly could go well on a bacon burger. Little did I know I was in for a surprise.
I tried the peanut butter and jealousy burger first, since the anticipation had been building for awhile. I couldn’t believe how delicious it was! The peanut butter overpowered everything, but in a good way, the sweet mixed with the 50% bacon, 50% beef burger all blended together perfectly.
Finally my Bacon Fap burger arrived, loaded with bacon and dripping with teriyaki glaze. I’m a huge fan of Hawaiian burgers so I knew I was in for a treat. The bacon fap was a success, I devoured every last bite, and would have licked the plate had I not had a group of coworkers around watching. Only thing I think I would change on the next one would be the turkey bacon, I think with the patty having turkey bacon already it was a bit much for me. Next time, I’m going to double up on the thick bacon and skip the turkey bacon.
Though I was so full I’d struggled to finish off my bacon fap burger, I knew I couldn’t leave without trying the bacon brownie. The bacon brownie is topped with bacon bits, chocolate sauce and surrounded by a river of ice cream. Since I was only in it for the bacon, I skipped over the ice cream and went straight for the brownie, sadly it wasn’t as good as I’d hoped it to be. I was expecting a stronger taste of bacon, but it was drown out by the rich chocolate flavor of the brownie. The brownie itself was good, but way too rich for my taste and didn’t have the bacon flavor, maybe next time I’ll get the Bacon Milkshake instead.
